School Ties Done Right

A school tie – scarf or bow tie – serves many purposes. It builds loyalty and camaraderie. It is a mark of accomplishment and a source of pride.  And perhaps most importantly, it brings back all those good memories.

However, a school tie only achieves the above if it is well made, well designed, and affordable.  In fact, an undistinguished tie reflects poorly on both the institution and the wearer.

Couldn’t be happier with Carl Rutberg, Ph.D. and his team at Lindman. The customer service is unmatched. The ties are the highest quality, and they delivered in under 4 weeks from concept to production when our previous vendor fell through!

Lindman New York designs and makes school ties the right way.  Which is why institutions around the country, including Harvard, Dartmouth, and Columbia, have asked us to design and manufacture their ties, bow ties, and scarves.

We know that when done correctly, a school tie lasts for many years and is worn on many occasions.  And it will invite the question: What kind of tie is that? Which allows the wearer to proudly provide the answer.

There are different types of school ties. There are those worn by younger students while attending classes; there are those worn after graduation; and there are those that mark a special occasion such as a school anniversary or a class reunion.

Since these ties serve different purposes, they will be design differently.

Ties that younger children wear in school are often clip-ons and made of polyester.

A school tie worn by young students to class, for example, will often be a clip-on and made of polyester (because it is easy to clean). A tie worn to commemorate a school reunion, on the other hand, will be self-tied and made of 100% woven silk. Not only does Lindman New York design and make ties for these different customers and occasions but we are also able to make ten or five hundred. In other words, we have no minimum.

When designing a tie, we use three basic tools: colors, patterns, and logos.  No matter what tools we use, however, the principle remains the same: a school tie must be unique.  It cannot look like anything you can buy in a store.

We present our clients with a range of design ideas. And once the client has picked the one they like best, we custom make a sample. We always work with our client’s deadline.
